Demian Costa is a Partner of the Structured Capital strategy, has worked in C-level roles in Camden portfolio companies, and helped source a deal for Camden Fund VI in 2019. Throughout his diverse career, he has developed extensive leadership experience both as an investor and operator across a wide variety of asset classes.
As an operator, he founded companies and held multiple C-level roles in startup and growth-stage businesses as well as leading restructuring and turn-around situations. For seven years, he was a Partner and founding member of Sagamore Ventures, the family office for Kevin A. Plank, Founder of Under Armour (NYSE:UA), which has operating businesses in various sectors. Demian developed the annual strategy for the business units and was responsible for advising and supporting the leadership teams, monitoring operating results against annual plans/budgets. He developed business plans for 6 new operating companies which he launched within Sagamore Ventures, subsequently building the strategy, hiring, and managing the teams to run those businesses. He has developed products and built supply chains in Southeast Asia and the US.
As an investor, he was Founder and Managing Partner of Sagamore Investments, the direct investment arm of Sagamore Ventures where he was responsible for investing $50mm+ in debt and equity investments across multiple asset classes. Demian made direct debt and equity investments in companies in multiple sectors including technology, cyber security, social media, consumer, education, and transportation. Additionally, he served as an Executive and Partner in the Port Covington Project, one of the largest and most transformative development projects in the United States. In this role, he helped successfully complete a $650mm Tax Increment Financing and a $250mm equity recapitalization from the Goldman Sachs Urban Investment Group.
Prior to joining Sagamore Ventures, Mr. Costa was a Co-Founder of FX Studios, a leader in a wide variety of fitness and wellness programming. Through a partnership with Under Armour, FX Studios developed and launched a fitness app and tracking platform, ultimately reducing healthcare costs for individuals and employers.
Demian Costa served for 12 years as a Navy SEAL, deploying multiple times to Bosnia, Serbia, Africa, and Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He held a variety of leadership roles, executing highly classified operations in multiple combat theaters. He was granted the highest level of security clearance and nominated for a Bronze Star and Joint Commendation Medal with “V” for valor in combat. He earned an MBA from the University of Maryland Smith School of Business, and a Bachelor of Finance, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Baltimore.
